he Postgraduate Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar conducted a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) cum workshop on “Post-Partum Hemorrhage (Preventing the Preventable)” today. The event, held in the Auditorium Hall of Government Lalla Ded Hospital Srinagar, was organized in collaboration with the Safe Motherhood Committee of the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI).
The workshop was inaugurated by Principal of GMC, Prof. (Dr) Iffat Hassan Shah. Distinguished guest faculty Dr. Poonam Goyal and Dr. Deepa Gupta attended, contributing their expertise to the significant gathering. The conference aimed to raise awareness, disseminate the latest research, and discuss innovative strategies for combating Post-Partum Hemorrhage (PPH), a leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide.
Prof. (Dr) Rizwana Habib, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at GMC Srinagar, welcomed dignitaries, faculty members, and administrative officials. In her opening address, she highlighted that PPH is a major cause of maternal mortality in both developing and developed countries, yet it is preventable with proper management and teamwork among doctors, nurses, paramedics, anesthesiologists, and other medical staff. Prof. Habib emphasized the necessity of CME workshops and up-to-date PPH drills as crucial training tools.
Principal Dr. Iffat Hassan congratulated the organizers for focusing on such a critical topic. She assured the participants of continued administrative support to manage PPH and reduce maternal mortalities. Dr. Poonam Goyal lauded the department for organizing the event on short notice and reiterated the importance of such workshops.
Speakers, including Prof. (Dr) Syed Masuma Rizvi, Dr. Muzaffar Jan (Medical Superintendent, LD Hospital), Dr. Shylla Mir, Dr. Shazia Ashraf, Dr. Samina Ashraf, Dr. Poonam, and Dr. Deepa Gupta, discussed various issues related to PPH. Their insights aimed to enhance the participants’ understanding and management of PPH.
In her vote of thanks, Prof. (Dr) Ambreen Qureshi emphasized the importance of training all medical staff members for the timely detection and treatment of PPH, which can be lifesaving for patients. She applauded the department members and the administration of LD Hospital, including paramedic and support staff, for their contributions to the conference’s success.
The event brought together faculty members, senior and junior residents, nurses, and paramedic staff. It proved to be a resounding success, offering valuable knowledge and strategies to advance maternal healthcare and reduce the burden of PPH. Through ongoing research, education, and collaboration, the medical community is poised to make significant strides in preventing and managing this critical obstetric complication.
